What I did today: cleaning the outside of a – already quite nice – black Nikkormat FT2 [after working & cycling for 6 hours through snowy and cold and windy Hamburg, Germany]. Sorry no pictures yet. Feels quite nice. Funny what – little – differences in feeling compared to my Nikon F2 Photomic. The Nikkormat is somewhat easier, less controls, less changes to make, more down to the earth style. Very heavy, comfortably heavy too, of course. My F2 with its’ Photomic head is a bit heavier though it just doesn’t feel that way.
Though I anticipate sending of the mighty F2 to Sover Wong for maintenance as soon as I have the money to pay for the service, I have ordered a book about how to repair analog Nikon gear…
…to shoot in glorious winter sunshine… note to self: take hand held light-meter!
Now off to retrieve some spare spikes* for my spiked bike-tires, need to go back on sighhh.
*because of the dry weather & spring spell in January & February I
well, the light-meter is inoperative, and we thought could it be the batteries, got new ones but no dice. The battery-chamber door is a ****** (= REALLY bad) plastic contraption so I suppose it could be the problem.
The camera is 100% mechanical and will work but teaching a 7 year old how to use an external light-meter is somewhat challenging. So I ordered a – at 12€ slightly overpriced – new battery compartment door for a Ricoh KR-5 off ebay, which should fit and is at least part metal. Hope that helps.
Planning a foto-safari (if weather permits we now have winter back… sigh) shooting venerable Tri-X 400.

Otherwise: have set my eyes on a Nikon Nikkormat FT-2 as a replacement which would mean my son would get (tightly regulated and supervised of course ;-) ) access to my Nikkor lenses. I do have a nice Nikon Nikkor-H.C. Auto 1:2 f=50mm (factory Ai’d) to go with it. The spare body will come in handy too when in summer I plan to send my Nikon F2 Photomic to Sover Wong for CLA & basic maintenance. Sover is not cheap but from what I have read and heard THE refresher guy for old Nikon F2s.
I am shooting more and more with my Zenza Bronica ETRSi (645) will probably take it with my when we go on holiday in summer, so that would free my Nikon F2 Photomic for that ordeal.

This is from a roll I shot on my daughter’s 3rd birthday, this is a cheap film from a local drugstore, I believe some fuji-stuff, shot @200, local development and – unfortunately low-rez – scanning.

Following some recent scanning of film from last summer I looked for sth. to post. This is a square crop off 35mm portrait image. Foreground was too boring.
